Amethyst Point

Amethyst is purple quartz that gets its color from iron impurities. It is named after the maiden Amethyst from Greek mythology and is the birthstone for the month of February. Many amethysts form as geodes because air bubbles inside rocks become filled with mineral-rich water, from which crystals slowly form.
