Gypsum Desert Rose

Gypsum sometimes occurs in rounded shapes called rosettes or desert roses. These are typically found as deposits in sedimentary beds. Gypsum is a soft mineral and is a #2 on the Mohs scale, a hardness scale of 1-10 used by geologists. It has many commercial uses, including making plaster of Paris for construction.
