Garnets are a group of silicate minerals that have been used as gemstones since the Bronze Age. They can be found in many colors including red, orange, brown, green, and purple. Red garnet is one of the most common and widespread forms, found in metamorphic rocks on every continent. Garnet is the birthstone for January.
