Optical Calcite

While calcite is the most common mineral next to quartz, optical calcite is less common. It is shaped like a stretched rectangle and is semi-clear to clear with a glassy luster. It can make objects placed behind it appear doubled. Flawless specimens are valued for their use in optical instruments.
